The representative of the people’s militia of the Donetsk People’s Republic, Eduard Basurin, announced the possible creation of an “umbrella” of a no-fly zone over the Donbass. It is reported by Interfax.

On the air of the Russia-24 TV channel, Basurin talked about Russia’s control of the sky and said that from a military point of view, it is not necessary to transfer air defense systems to the DPR – it will be enough for the Russian Federation to control the sky in the format of an “umbrella” or “dome” over the republics. When the presenter asked him if such an “umbrella” already existed over the DPR, Basurin answered in the affirmative. “I think so,” he said.

After that, the Zvezda TV channel clarified that the representative of the people’s militia did not confirm the introduction of a no-fly zone – “it was about the assumption that its introduction would make sense.”

Earlier, NATO reported that they were not considering the issue of introducing a no-fly zone over Ukraine. Julianne Smith, US permanent representative to the alliance, said: “We do not want to expand this conflict … I think the introduction of a no-fly zone would take us in the wrong direction.”

Recall that on February 21, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed decrees recognizing the independence of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR), and on February 24 he made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.”
