FHR appealed against the decision of the IIHF Council on the removal of the Russian national teams from international competitions

The Russian Ice Hockey Federation (RHF) has appealed against the decision of the Board of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) to exclude Russian national teams and clubs from participation in international tournaments. This was reported on the website of the organization.

The FHR sent a complaint to the Disciplinary Committee of the IIHF against the decision of the organization, which, in addition to the removal of domestic teams from international competitions, also provided for the deprivation of Russia of the right to host the Youth World Cup 2023. In a statement, the FHR described these sanctions as discrimination against Russian hockey players.

On March 1, the IIHF commented on restrictive measures. The organization refused to consider them sanctions against Russian sports.

On February 28, the IIHF suspended Russian and Belarusian teams from participating in tournaments under its auspices. The Federation explained the decision by the desire to ensure the safety of athletes and officials.
