appointed as many as 33 players for the March training camp of the Polish national team. First, on March 24 in Glasgow, the Poles are going to play against Scotland, instead of facing Russia, and then on March 29, they will play against the winner of the match Sweden – Czech Republic in the final of the play-off. However, a great criticism fell on the selector related to the appointment of such a large team.
, the former coach of the Polish national team, is, however, against the criticism of Michniewicz. In an interview, he explained why he supports the choice of such a wide body. – I think that the coach Czesław Michniewicz did very well. Firstly, he took precautions in the event of injuries and diseases, as the coronavirus pandemic still prevails, emphasized Nawałka.
– It is very important for purely training reasons. Even if not all of these 33 players get a chance to play against Scotland or in the play-off game, they will gain invaluable experience. The players will get to know the coach’s game model. This is the first grouping, and each contact is important for the next vocations. I know from experience that the more time players spend on the squad, the more they develop. During my term of office, we also monitored a wider group of players. Those who came to the training camps from the very beginning were introduced to the model of the game, in terms of their development in individual positions, elimination of deficits, and all in consultation with the club coaches. The individual development of a player is extremely important – added the former selector.
Nawałka also drew attention to a completely different style of work of Michniewicz than his predecessor Paulo Sousa, who recruited 24 or a maximum of 27 players for the training camps. – Paulo worked differently, with a smaller group. And that was strange to me. The more that it introduced a new game system, its new organization. And this is connected with completely new rules of functioning, both when it comes to playing ahead and after losing the ball. These rules should be instilled in as many players as possible. This is how the creativity of footballers is built – the more contacts with the coach, the more time the individual contact with the national team, the better the results. This is extremely important. Knowledge, knowledge, knowledge again and the transmission of messages. This cannot be replaced in any way – Nawałka admitted.
This is how the composition of the Polish national team should look like. Michniewicz is already showing the cards
The selector has changed, but the Polish national team is to continue to play with the three central defenders. There are many indications that the base lineup for the match against Scotland and the World Cup play-off will be 3-4-3. The coach Czesław Michniewicz does not hide, however, that he would like the staff to be flexible in this respect –
