Manchester United kicked out of the Champions League. Atletico Madrid in the quarter-finals

Renan Lodi is the protagonist of the match 1/8 of the Champions League final, in which Atletico Madrid defeated. The Red Devils did what they could, but it was the guests who advanced to the quarter-finals.

Lodi headed and promoted Atletico Madrid

From the very first minutes, the hosts tried to impose their conditions. And it was successful, although there was certainly a lack of efficiency and, above all, more dangerous situations. Throughout the first half, the Red Devils had an advantage in ball possession (58% – 42%). Manchester had a good situation in the 26th minute, but Jan Oblak defended Dalot’s dangerous shot from a distance.

The first warning for the hosts came right after the start of the third quarter of an hour of the game. A moment of inattention and the ball fell into their net. Felix hit an empty goal after a combo but the goal was not recognized. He was in an offside position. For a moment, Manchester was approaching the opponents’ goal again, but Atletico soon took the initiative again. There was no need to wait for the effect. In the 42nd minute he made a beautiful cross into the penalty area, where Renan Lodi headed the ball to give Atletico a 1-0 lead in the match and 2-1 on aggregate.

Except for the first seconds of the second half, when Elanga fired a clever shot from the edge of the sixteenth and the ball flew past the visitors’ goal, the Red Devils had a hard time holding the ball. There was no sign of such commitment as at the beginning of the first part of the meeting. The guests also did everything to keep the ball as long as possible. They clearly focused on defense and waited for counter-strikes.

Manchester was not helped even by the triple change the coach made after an hour of play. The Red Devils tried, but did not do much. Like 10 minutes before the end of the match, when Reinildo stopped his way from the right side of the field.

The hosts did not give up and fought for extra time until the end. In the fifth minute of added time, Jan Oblak caught Rashford’s deep center from a corner kick. Moments later, the judge ended the game. The guests advanced to the quarter-finals, because in the first game they tied with the Red Devils 1: 1.
