Valuev said that Russian athletes will not massively change sports citizenship
Former world boxing champion and now State Duma deputy Nikolai Valuev assessed the likelihood of a possible change of sports citizenship by Russians. It is reported by Sport24.
He called such a step a betrayal and suggested that athletes from Russia would not go for it en masse. “As for the suspensions themselves, all our sports federations need to follow the example of the Russian Football Union and appeal these decisions to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS),” Valuev said.
On March 15, CAS announced an interim decision, according to which the suspension of Russian football clubs and teams from international competitions is upheld. A full hearing should take place in the coming weeks.
Since the end of February, Russians have been suspended from many sports. Exceptions are tennis, cycling and motorsport, where athletes from Russia are allowed to compete in neutral status in individual events. Russian boxers and mixed-style fighters (MMA) also continue to perform on the international arena.
