RFU: the removal of Russian teams from UEFA tournaments refers to interim measures
The leadership of the Russian Football Union (RFU) commented on the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to uphold the suspension of Russian clubs and teams from international competitions under the auspices of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). It is reported by Championship.com.
The RFU drew attention to the fact that the decision concerns only tournaments under the auspices of UEFA and refers to interim measures. The organization emphasized that the consideration of the case will continue in accordance with the procedure determined by the court.
CAS announced its verdict regarding Russian teams and national teams earlier, on March 15th. It is noted that the solution is intermediate.
Due to the sanctions of UEFA and the International Football Federation (FIFA), the Russian national football team lost its chances to participate in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The team was supposed to participate in the play-offs for entering the tournament, but the national teams of Poland, the Czech Republic and Sweden expressed their unwillingness to meet with Russian players.
