CAS will decide on the participation of Russian clubs and teams in FIFA tournaments at the end of the week
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has announced the deadline for considering the appeal of the Russian Football Union (RFU) to suspend the decision of the International Football Federation (FIFA) regarding the participation of Russian clubs and teams in international competitions. This was reported on the website of the organization.
CAS said that the decision will be made at the end of this week. The Russian side was denied an expedited appeal procedure, so the case will be considered in the usual manner.
Earlier, on March 15, CAS upheld the decision to remove Russian teams and national teams from international competitions under the auspices of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). It is noted that the solution is intermediate.
Due to UEFA and FIFA sanctions, the Russian national football team lost its chances to participate in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The team was supposed to participate in the play-offs for reaching the World Cup, but the national teams of Poland, the Czech Republic and Sweden expressed their unwillingness to play with Russian players.
