German defender Mats Hummels, from Borussia Dortmund, was released to play this Tuesday, after recovering from Covid-19, and will be able to take the field this Wednesday, against Mainz, in the Bundesliga.
Dortmund coach Marco Rose has not confirmed Hummels’ lineup, but hopes the player will be able to participate in the game.
“He passed all the medical tests. We’ll see if he can play,” Rose explained.
Despite the possible return of Hummels, Dortmund still cannot count on left-back Raphael Guerreiro, who tested positive for Covid-19 last week, nor on midfielder Marco Reus, for reasons that Rose preferred not to reveal.
“Reus is fine, there are other illnesses besides Covid,” said the coach.
Norwegian striker Erling Haaland and US midfielder Giovanni Reyna returned from injury in last weekend’s round, but Rose hinted that neither will start against Mainz.
“Both are working well, but we can see that training and playing are two different things. They will have more game time progressively”, said the coach.
If they get the victory away from home, Dortmund, vice-leaders of the German Championship, can reduce the difference to leaders Bayern Munich to four points.
