CAS rejected the appeal of the RFU on the removal of Russian teams and national teams from the competition
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne upheld the decision to remove Russian teams from international competitions under the auspices of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). This was reported on the website of the organization.
It is noted that the solution is intermediate. A full hearing should take place in the coming weeks.
The filing of an appeal by the Russian Football Union (RFU) to CAS became known on March 7. A day later, the court accepted it.
Due to the sanctions of UEFA and the International Football Federation (FIFA), the Russian national football team lost its chances to participate in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The team was supposed to participate in the play-offs for reaching the World Cup, but the national teams of Poland, the Czech Republic and Sweden expressed their unwillingness to play with Russian players.
