“It was embarrassing,” says Maguire of Liverpool’s rout

After the havoc Manchester United took away from Liverpool 5-0 in the Premier League, Harry Maguire said the players from Reds they disappointed coach Ole Solskjaer and summed up the defeat as “embarrassing”. For this Saturday’s clash against Tottenham, the defender stated that the team is determined to make a beautiful match.

“It’s been difficult, it’s been disappointing,” Maguire told Sky Sports. “When you look back at the result and the performance, it’s embarrassing. It’s one of the worst (results), I’m sure all the players felt it in their careers,” he added.

“To be honest, I went home and just looked at myself and what I can do better. I take full responsibility on my shoulders. It’s been a difficult week”, said the athlete.

Maguire said United’s defensive system should be much better. As team captain, you want to improve your own performance and motivate the team.

“We conceded a lot of goals. I take a big responsibility for that. I take responsibility for my own performance, but also for the defensive performance. Since the beginning of the season we gave chances with the leaked defense and we were punished for that”, said Maguire.

Anticipating the game with Tottenham, the defender said that the squad spent the last week talking and now they need to recover to leave behind the vexing defeat.

“We have great players at this club with a lot of experience. “The spirit of the group is very good and we are together and we can move forward. We have a great game on Saturday and we need to take care of the performance and ensure that we make the fans proud, because we know they were disappointed.”
