Russian athletes suspended from the Universiade

FISU suspended Russian and Belarusian athletes from the 2022 Universiade in Chengdu

The leadership of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) announced the suspension of Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in competitions under the auspices of the organization. This is reported on the FISU website.

The suspension will be in effect until at least the end of 2022. Due to the imposed sanctions, Russian and Belarusian athletes will miss the Summer Universiade in Chengdu, China, which will be held from June 26 to July 7.

In March, Norway stated that it supported the disqualification of Russian and Belarusian athletes, but called for juniors and children to be allowed to compete. In their opinion, mass sports should develop in Russia.

On February 28, the International Olympic Committee called for the non-admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in international competitions. After that, most of the sports federations of the world refused to allow the Russians and Belarusians to the tournaments.
