Four Russian hockey players took part in the match – defender Dmitry Orlov and forwards Evgeny Kuznetsov and Alexander Ovechkin in the Washington squad, as well as forward Vasily Podkolzin in the Canucks. Russian goalkeeper Ilya Samsonov remained in the reserve of the capital’s team.
The meeting ended with the victory of “Washington” with a score of 4:3 in overtime. Kuznetsov scored a hat-trick, and Ovechkin gave two assists.
On March 9, the Capitals supported the team’s Russian players. The club drew attention to the fact that they were in a difficult situation, and considered it necessary to help them and their families.
