The duel of Łukasz Wierzbicki (21-1, 7 KOs) with Edmond Zefi (9-2, 5 KOs) at MB Boxing Night 11 was supposed to be one of the general rehearsals for the Pole before fights with more serious opponents. According to the announcements, this clash was not supposed to guarantee too many emotions. However, it turned out completely different.
An unusual situation in the ring
The fight between the Pole and the Kosovar went down in the history of the Polish professional, and this was due to the unusual situation at the very beginning of the century. Moments after the gong was struck, Edmond Zefi protested. It was about the fact that he had a different size of gloves than the Pole. The Kosovar was wearing a 10-ounce pair and Wierzbicki was wearing an 8-ounce pair.
In the end, it was possible to provide both boxers with the same size of gloves, and after a long break it was resumed. The Pole was definitely better in each of the six rounds, thanks to which he won on points 59:55 and twice 60:54. After the fight, the glove incident was the most talked about.
He was even shocked after this event, which is an encyclopedia of Polish. While commenting on the broadcast on TVP Sport, he revealed that he had never seen or heard of a similar situation. “Monty Python’s Circus. What are the so-called Technical Delegates doing?” – Piotr Jagiełło, a TVP Sport commentator, wrote on Twitter.
