Russian skier Alexander Bolshunov became the second in the overall standings of the World Cup in the 2021/2022 season. The results are available on the website of the International Ski Federation (FIS).
At the end of the season, the athlete scored 878 points. Norwegian Johannes Klebo became the winner with 1375 points. The third place was taken by Finn Iivo Niskanen (718 points). Russian Ivan Yakimushkin also made it to the top ten with 459 points in eighth place.
On March 1, the Norwegian Ski Federation banned Russian athletes from participating in competitions held in the country. After that, the FIS extended the ban to all competitions under the auspices of the organization. Before the end of the season, the skiers had to hold two stages of the World Cup: in Norway and Sweden.
At the 2022 Olympics, Bolshunov became a three-time champion: he has gold in skiathlon, relay and marathon. The athlete also won silver in the 15 km race in the classic style and bronze in the team sprint.
