The remodeling, with a budget of 10 million euros, will start in the autumn, will end in 2025 and will reduce lanes in Plaza Aita Donostia.
The Minister of Territorial Planning, Housing and Transport, Iñaki Arriola, has presented the remodeling of the Topo station in Anoeta, which will include the construction of a second surface hall and the expansion of the platforms with a budget of 10 million euros.
The project, which also provides for the road reorganization of Plaza Aita Donostia, will be put out to tender in the coming weeks, “around Holy Week”, according to Arriola, and the works will begin in the last quarter of this year with a deadline execution of 30 months.
The objective of the “comprehensive” reform of the station, located on the esplanade of the Reale Arena stadium, is to adapt the stop to the offer of services that will be implemented between Hendaye and Zumaia, as well as to improve safety, accessibility, comfort and energy efficiency .
The Anoeta station is the second in number of users with two million passengers in 2019 and traffic is expected to increase with the start-up of the Donostialdea Metro underground passageway between Lugaritz and Easo, Arriola has indicated.
The lobby built in the early 1990s is insufficient for this demand from travellers, especially on days of major sporting events, so a new one will be built a hundred meters away, with accessible lifts.
The facades will be made of glass with concrete covers and the exterior cladding will consist of large-format tiles made of a material that looks similar to stone but is recyclable and anti-vandalism.
Once the new hall is completed and put into service, the current one will be demolished and the new structure will be installed.
