The German driver Sebastian Vettel (Aston Martin) wore a helmet with the colors of Ukraine on the track, in protest against the Russian invasion, in the second Formula 1 pre-season test, this Thursday in Bahrain.
The white helmet, with blue and yellow bars, also featured the figure of a dove, as well as the symbol of ‘Love and Peace’, the motto ‘No war’ (No to war) and words from the song ‘Imagine’ by John Lennon.
At the initiative of the Grand Prix drivers’ association, the GPDA, 18 of the starting drivers on the grid (with the exception of Britain’s Lewis Hamilton and Denmark’s Kevin Magnussen) posed behind a Ukrainian flag with the words ‘No war’ on the starting grid of the Sakhir circuit, in Bahrain, this Wednesday. They all also wore a t-shirt with the same slogan ‘No war’.
Hamilton, for his part, expressed himself through Instagram. “I am wholeheartedly with the brave people of Ukraine, who stand firmly for their values of freedom and peace,” she wrote, before calling for support for a group of British NGOs.
The second pre-season test takes place in Bahrain from Thursday to Saturday, before the first GP of the season, on the same circuit, the following week. (D)
