If, during a Russian special operation in Ukraine, a blow is struck along the supply line of NATO member countries that support Kyiv with weapons and ammunition, the self-defense clause will work. Jens Stoltenberg, Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance, warned about this, CBC reports.

He noted that now “the allies are helping Ukraine to defend its right to self-defense, enshrined in the UN Charter.” “If there is an attack on any NATO territory, this will lead to the application of Article 5,” Stoltenberg added.

He expressed confidence that Russian President Vladimir Putin knows about this, therefore, all grounds for miscalculations, misunderstandings of the alliance’s obligation to protect every inch of NATO territory are eliminated. Stoltenberg added that the alliance clearly distinguishes supply lines within Ukraine from those operating outside it.

Let us add that the mentioned article of the founding treaty of NATO states that an attack on one member is an attack on all 30 member countries.
