The bandit attack of the Russians on Ukraine changed the world irretrievably. Russia is becoming more and more isolated due to sanctions imposed by Western states. It also affects sports.
Russian athletes are excluded from international competition. The national team of Russia and the local clubs were suspended in the competition and UEFA, and the FIVB took away Russia’s rights to host this year’s men’s volleyball world championships. The Russians are also not taking part in the Paralympic Games in Beijing.
The world champion will not get a chance to defend his title. FIM suspends the licenses
On Saturday a similar fate was shared by the Russian and Belarusian slaggers. decided to suspend the Russian Federation of Motorcycle Sports (MFR) and the Belarusian Federation of Motorcycle Sports (BFMS). This means that both federations will not be able to issue new licenses to players, and the existing ones will not be respected.
– We express our sympathy and solidarity with all those suffering as a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and we are in close contact with our member, I mean the Ukrainian FMU federation. I would like to thank all members of the FIM Board for taking these actions in the interests of sport and peace, said FIM President Jorge Viegas.
In practice, therefore, players from both these countries will not be able to take part, inter alia, in the Speedway Grand Prix. So the current world champion will not have a chance to defend the title. Apart from him, Emil Sajfutdinow will also be absent from the GP. They will replace their reserve – Jack Holder and Daniel Bewley.
PZM also excludes Russians and Belarusians. A heated discussion about Chugunov
At the same time, the decision to exclude Russian and Belarusian players from the Polish games was made. – Due to the illegal armed invasion of Russia on the territory of Ukraine, as well as the fact that this brutal attack is supported by the Belarusian state, the Polish Motor Union excludes Russian and Belarusian competitors until dismissal from participation in sports competitions in motor sports organized on the territory of Poland. The national teams of these countries are also excluded from participation in sports competitions held in Poland – we read in the testimony.
While waiting for PZM decisions, the community in Poland was discussing the Chugunov Soil. The 22-year-old rider comes from Russia, but has Polish citizenship since 2020. In addition, it strongly opposes the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Despite this, some experts demanded that he should be excluded as well.
– In my opinion, we should not wonder if he has already traveled as a Pole. For me, in the current situation, it is crucial that the athlete still has Russian citizenship. And he still has them. If someone wants to be Polish, he will give up his previous passport. Then the situation becomes one hundred percent clear. Nobody can say that the choice was made because of some clear interest – said the former coach of the Polish national team, quoted by.
However, also defenders of Chugunov appeared. This group includes, inter alia, former coach Rafa³ Dobrucki. – Gleb Czugunow is the only competitor from this group who has previously declared to ride in our league as a Pole. He did it two years ago, so long before the war broke out in Ukraine. He also represented us in the international arena, which he deserved with his sports attitude. In my opinion, his situation is clear – said the 45-year-old trainer.
On Saturday it was finally confirmed that Gleb Czugunow will be an exception and will be given the opportunity to start in the Polish competition.
