At the beginning of the week, FIFA made the decision to exclude from the competition. As a result, the Polish national team is already confident that they will play in the final of the play-offs for promotion to the world championship in Qatar. However, the world football authorities still have other steps to take to solve the problems arising from the Russian attack on Ukraine.
FIFA is debating what to do with players in the Ukrainian league
As the portal learned, on Friday, a FIFA Football Stakeholders Committee meeting was held, at which the change of transfer regulations was discussed. It is known that the league games were suspended. So there were questions about what to do with the players who have contracts across our eastern border.
No decision has been made yet, but initially debates were held on allowing players in the Ukrainian league to go on loan to clubs in other countries. This is until the games resume at our neighbors. However, it is not known how to resolve it formally. Ukrainian clubs have suspended their activities and no one has the head for such things there.
During the committee’s deliberations, it was initially agreed that juvenile footballers from Ukraine should have simplified registration procedures in other federations. The issue of foreign players who play in Russia was also raised. There are two ideas. One is allowing players to terminate contracts with clubs by mutual consent outside the transfer window.
The second idea is more radical. It is about granting the right to terminate contracts to all foreigners appearing in the Premier League due to the country’s participation in the armed conflict. Although this option promoted by FIFPro should find support in FIFA, it is quite controversial. Russian clubs would lose millions.
Kulesza wrote a letter to Infantino on this matter
Let us remind you that on Thursday the president of the Polish Football Association sent a letter to the head of FIFA Gianni Infantino. In it he thanks for the decision to exclude the Russians from the competition. However, he stressed that similar actions should be taken in relation to Belarus. The regime of Alexander Lukashenka takes an active part in the attack on Ukraine. Rockets are launched from the territory of Belarus, and according to the latest – as yet unconfirmed reports – the Belarusian army has entered Ukraine.
Kulesza also asked Infantino to help the players who are registered with the local football association. Firstly, Kulesza proposes that underage players could be registered in other clubs without any problems. Currently, it is impossible to carry out the proper procedure, because all clubs in Ukraine have suspended their activities.
Secondly, Kulesza wants Ukrainian footballers to be able to move to foreign clubs despite the closure of the transfer window. The president suggests, however, that a given player would only be “loaned” to another club. After the end of hostilities in Ukraine, he would return to the Ukrainian club in the first transfer window after the war. The local clubs would not have to pay wages to the players, and the players could not terminate the contract due to the club’s fault for arrears in payments.
