West Ham’s Ukrainian striker Andrei Yarmolenko will not play against Liverpool in the Premier League on Saturday, the London club announced on Friday.
“He has trained but he will not travel with us,” said West Ham manager David Moyes. “I don’t think he’s really ready and we want to give him the chance to do what he can for his family and his country. He is very shaken by the situation,” said the coach.
“I feel helpless and not just as a coach. We all have the feeling that there is nothing we can do except assure him of our full support. We are constantly asking if we can do anything,” added Moyes.
West Ham are fifth in the Premier League, two points off fourth, the last England team to qualify for the Champions League.
Liverpool are in second place, six points behind leaders Manchester City.
