The World Curling Federation (WCF) suspended the Russian national curling team and the Russian Curling Federation from international competitions. This was reported on the website of the organization.
The suspension is valid until the end of the season. Thus, the Russian national teams will not be able to compete at the 2022 World Championships among men, women and mixed doubles.
Earlier, the WCF Council adopted a new rule, according to which a federation can exclude a team from competitions under its auspices if its participation is harmful to the event and endangers the safety of other participants. The organization also moved the 2022 European Championship among men’s and women’s teams from Perm.
On February 28, the International Olympic Committee recommended that sports federations prevent Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in competitions. According to the statement of the organization, the countries violated the Olympic truce.
