The International Biathlon Union (IBU) appreciated the rumor about the suspension of Russian photographer Yevgeny Tumashov. Their words are quoted by Match TV.
“We were concerned about his well-being and gave him the opportunity to either stay at the event or, if it was safer, return home,” the IBU said. The organization emphasized that Tumashov would receive full payment in any case, and added that the Russian is not an IBU employee, but works as a freelancer.
Earlier on March 4, Tumashov said that the IBU had stopped working with him because of his citizenship. The Russian suggested that the organization was afraid that one of the athletes might shoot him.
On March 2, the IBU suspended Russian and Belarusian athletes from competitions. On March 17, the union will discuss the issue of suspending the membership of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU).
