The “Washington” spoke about the “incredible pressure” on Ovechkin

The general manager of the club of the National Hockey League (NHL) “Washington Capitals” Brian McLellan spoke about the condition of the striker Alexander Ovechkin. His words are quoted by NBC Sports.

“Because of his status, he got into a difficult situation, which I am not sure that he fully comprehended. He takes everything to heart. I think there is incredible pressure on him,” McLellan said. He added that the team is trying to support the athlete, as he is under pressure from both Russia and the United States.

On February 28, the NHL announced that it was suspending cooperation with partners from Russia. Also, the Canadian equipment manufacturer CCM has ended its partnership with Ovechkin.

Ovechkin has been with Washington since 2005. In 2018, the hockey player together with the team won the Stanley Cup. In 2017, the athlete announced on Instagram the creation of a movement in support of Russian President Vladimir Putin, which was called the Putin Team.
