Former side Roberto Carlos will play for an English pub team

This Friday, the former Brazilian player Roberto Carlos will enter the lawns of England to play a match for the team of a pub.

The 48-year-old former left-back, Real Madrid idol, will defend the colors of Bull in the Barne United in the western town of Shrewsbury after the team won the ‘Dream Transfer’ charity giveaway on eBay in January .

Roberto Carlos should play a friendly against Harlescott Rangers, also from the city of Shrewsbury and participating in the amateur District Sunday League.

The Brazilian, who won the World Cup in 2002, had a brief spell at India’s Delhi Dynamos in 2015.

When it was announced in January that he would play a game for Bull in the Barne, Roberto Carlos said in a statement: “I am excited to play for Bull in the Barne in Shrewsbury, paying tribute to when I almost signed for Birmingham City in the 1990s, team that is very close”.

“I’ve heard that the team has lost several players this season, so I hope my training is enough to help them improve their game and present what Bull in the Barne fans want to see,” he added.

Bull in the Barne coach and goalkeeper Ed Speller said: “Roberto Carlos is one of the legends who has inspired so many young athletes to love football.”

“My jaw dropped when we found out that Bull in the Barne won Dream Transfer and that he would play alongside us in Shrewsbury.”

The money raised from the raffle went to Football Beyond Borders, an institution that helps underprivileged youth.
