The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) has suspended Russian and Belarusian weightlifters from international competitions administered by this organization, according to its website.
The decision has been made until further notice and applies to athletes, team officials and technical representatives.
“In addition, and until further notice, no IWF-sanctioned events will be held in these countries,” the statement said.
Earlier, the International Wrestling Federation (UWW) held a special meeting on the situation in Ukraine and decided to follow the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and impose sanctions on Russian and Belarusian wrestlers, as well as national wrestling federations.
Also, the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) announced sanctions against Russian athletes. The organization suspended fighters from Russia and Belarus from participating in the MMA Super Bowl.
