The hockey player of the junior national team of Russia and the Omsk Avangard system Ivan Miroshnichenko was diagnosed with an oncological disease. Journalist Aleksey Shevchenko announced this on his Telegram channel.
The journalist said that the 18-year-old player has a malignant disease of the lymphoid tissue Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. For ethical reasons, I did not write what I already knew for a long time. He will definitely defeat this disease,” he wrote.
Avangard did not comment on the information about cancer, but emphasized that Miroshnichenko would most likely miss the entire next season and be treated in Germany. The club took care of all the costs associated with his treatment. “We wish Vanya a speedy recovery and return to the ice!” — wrote in the team.
Miroshnichenko plays for the Omsk Hawks. Prior to that, he intended to play in one of the leagues in North America, but could not get a Canadian visa. At the 2020 Youth Olympic Games in Lausanne, the athlete was the captain of the national team and took second place in the list of top scorers in the tournament. He is considered one of the top prospects in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft.
