Russian wrestlers suspended from international competitions

The Bureau of the United World Wrestling (UWW) suspended Russian athletes from participating in international competitions. This was reported on the website of the organization.

The Federation of Greco-Roman, freestyle and women’s wrestling has canceled tournaments in Russia in 2022. The same sanctions were imposed on Belarus.

Earlier on March 2, the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF) suspended Russia’s membership. The statement stressed that the IBSF follows the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The membership of the Bobsleigh Federation and the Russian Luge Federation has been suspended until July 2022, when the organization’s congress will be held. It is noted that this decision is not directed against athletes.

On February 28, the IOC recommended that international sports federations prevent Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in international competitions due to the situation around Russia and Ukraine. According to the statement of the organization, the countries violated the Olympic truce.

After that, international federations in various sports imposed sanctions on domestic athletes. In particular, Russia was left without international competitions in football, volleyball, hockey and athletics.
