Former soccer player John Terry, a Chelsea legend, posted this Thursday on his Twitter account Twitter a photo in which he appears posing next to the still owner of the club, Roman Abramovich, and which he titles as The Best (The best).
The former captain of the blues and the English team has thus wanted to fire the Russian oligarch, after he has confirmed that he has put the London club up for sale, as a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Abramovich bought Chelsea in 2003 for an amount close to 100 million euros and since then has made it one of the leading teams in Europe, with 18 titles, including two European Cups.
In the photograph posted by Terry, the player and the Russian billionaire appear holding the English Premier League trophy, which he accompanies with the aforementioned The Best and three blue hearts.
The publication has accumulated thousands of “likes” from his followers, but it has also been filled with comments that censor the position adopted by the former player.
“I should tell you how and why The best he used your beloved club for personal benefit and nothing more”, reproaches an Internet user.
Another Twitter user finds Terry’s comment “inappropriate” and wonders “what opinion the poor people of Ukraine will have of him.”
“He is not one of yours. He is an opportunist gifted with Russian riches during the breakup of the Soviet Union,” one follower reminds him.
In the comment thread there are also those who want to thank Abramovich for his contribution to Chelsea’s successes or those who maintain that the oligarch “has no power, he did not start the war, he wants peace.” (D)
