The Russian Football Federation announced on Thursday that it will appeal its exclusion from the 2022 World Cup and all international competitions before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne.
Russia would initially face Poland on March 24 in Moscow in the World Cup play-off semi-finals. On Monday, FIFA and Uefa banned Russians from all their competitions, in reaction to the invasion of Ukraine.
The Russian Federation will request that all men’s and women’s national teams return to all competitions and will ask the CAS for “an accelerated procedure” in their case, given the proximity of the initially scheduled date for the duel against Poland, which has insisted they will not play against russians.

Russian football officials estimate that FIFA and Uefa acted “without legal basis” to enact their veto and that they took the decision “under pressure” from rival football federations, such as Poland. They also regretted not expressing their point of view to both organizations.
On Monday, the Russian Football Federation had already denounced the “discriminatory” effects of the decision “on a large number of athletes, coaches, club and national staff”.
The 2022 World Cup, the biggest sporting event of the year, will be held from November 21 to December 18 in Qatar.
Russia was the host country of the previous edition of the event, in 2018.
