Nkunku shines, RB Leipzig thrashes Hannover and advances to German Cup semi-final

This Wednesday, the RB Leipzig thrashed Hannover 96, 4-0, away from home, in the quarterfinals of the German Cup. Christopher Nkunku was the big name of the duel and scored two goals in the HDI-Arena. Konrad Laimer and André Silva scored the other goals.

With the result, the East German team advances to the semifinals of the national competition. The northern club, which had eliminated Norderstedt, Fortuna Dusseldorf and Borussia Monchengladbach, bid farewell to the tournament.

The game – RB Leipzig, coached by Domenico Tedesco, started the match better, prevailed and pressured Christoph Dabrowski’s Hannover. In this way, the visitors opened the scoring at 16, with Nkunku. The Frenchman was triggered by Dani Olmo, who made a good move through the middle, dominated the ball and, facing the goalkeeper, kicked low, in the left corner.

Five minutes later, the striker scored a great goal and extended the score. He received a pass from Josko Gvardiol in depth and dribbled the goalkeeper, but ran too much and ran out of angle. Nkunku, then, near the baseline, regained control of the ball, cut to the middle with a beautiful feint, leaving the opponent on the ground, and completed for the back of the goal.

The home team came back better from the break, with a more offensive proposal, and built opportunities at the beginning of the complementary stage. However, Leipzig resumed their good performance, canceled out the opponent’s attempts and extended the advantage.

At 22, Laimer scored with Silva, entered the area and finished in a cross, in the left corner. The ball hit the post and then swung the nets. Six minutes later, the Portuguese, under the crossbar, took advantage of Angeliño’s cross, who deflected the defender, and just pushed it into the goal, securing the 4-0 triumph.
