Last weekend, the competition in the World Cup in ski jumping was back. The first competition after the Beijing Olympics was held in Lahti and it was quite successful for the Polish representatives. In the first individual competition on the Salpausselka hill, Piotr Żyła was third. Later it was worse, because we finished the team competition only in seventh position. In the second individual competition, Dawid Kubacki was the best, again seventh.
On Wednesday, the Norwegian tournament begins, which this time will look completely different than before. First of all, the cycle will take place only in two (and Oslo) cities, not four, as in previous years. Due to the renovation the hill in Trondheim fell out and the flying world championship will be held on the mammoth in Vikersund. Therefore, this year’s edition of Raw Air jumpers will consist of three prologues and three individual competitions (one in Lillehammer and two in Oslo). The final score will then be a total of only nine jumps.
Before the time for qualifying in Lillehammer, however, there were two training sessions. The Poles did very well in the first one. Although the best of them, Piotr Żyła, was only 10th after a jump on 130.5 meters, all six white and reds were in the top “30”. Kamil Stoch, who reached 124.5 meters, was 12th. Stefan Hula was 22nd (122.5 meters), 25th was Pawe Wsek (120 meters), 28th was Kacper Juroszek (117.5 meters), and 30th. the place was taken by Dawid Kubacki (115.5 meters).
Three Poles at the fore … and training in Lillehammer was canceled!
The second training looked even better for the Poles. After the jumps of 28 competitors, the leader was Kacper Juroszek (128.5 meters), ahead of Paweł Wąska (133.5 meters) and Stefan Hula (129 meters). Unfortunately, due to strong winds, the training was interrupted after Paweł Wąska’s jump. Thus, the second jump was not made by, among others Dawid Kubacki, Kamil Stoch and Piotr Żyła.
The qualification for the competition in Lillehammer starts at 16:45. Report on Sport.pl and in the Sport.pl LIVE mobile application.
