On February 28, the International Olympic Committee recommended that international sports federations prevent Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in international competitions due to the situation around Russia and Ukraine. According to the statement of the organization, the countries violated the Olympic truce.

After that, international federations in various sports imposed sanctions on domestic athletes. In particular, Russia was left without international competitions in football, volleyball, hockey and athletics.
