The International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) suspended the national teams of Russia and Belarus from participating in competitions under its auspices. This was reported on the website of the organization.
“IMMAF joins the boycott of Russia and Belarus in international sports in response to the situation in Ukraine,” the organization said in a statement. The national teams of Russia and Ukraine will not be able to take part in the next MMA Super Bowl, which is to be held in Bahrain from March 8 to 12.
“We are striving to unite world sport and show solidarity with Ukraine,” said Kerrit Brown, head of the IMMAF.
In professional MMA, there are no sanctions against Russian athletes yet. The head of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), Dana White, said that the promotion intends to ensure the organization of fights with the participation of Russians.
