The World Boxing Council (WBC), the World Boxing Organization (WBO) and the International Boxing Federation (IBF) announced sanctions against Russian athletes. This was reported on the WBC website.
The WBC, WBO and IBF refused to recognize championship fights involving Russian boxers. In a joint statement, they called for peace and expressed their hope that the situation in Ukraine would be resolved.
Earlier, the World Boxing Association (WBA) announced sanctions against the Russians. The organization excluded Russians from its ratings. However, this measure did not affect the current title holders.
In mixed martial arts, Russian athletes have not yet faced bans and restrictions. The head of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), Dana White, said that the promotion is seeking to hold the announced fights with the participation of the Russians. On March 19, Russian heavyweight Alexander Volkov is scheduled to headline the UFC tournament in London.
