With great enthusiasm in social networks, the Cuencan chef shared Carolina Sanchezbased in Spain, whose restaurant Ikaro has just won a second sun in the Repsol guide. The recognition occurred during an award ceremony at the Victoria Eugenia Theater, in San Sebastián (Spain).

The Sol Repsol is one of the most important awards of the world gastronomy; the guide distinguishes each year the best restaurants in Spain. It is the second for the Ikaro restaurant, which Sánchez co-directs with her husband, Iñaki Murúa, also a chef.

“Carolina Sánchez and Iñaki Murúa merge in the kitchen influences from Ecuador (she was born there), Euskadi (he is from Laguardia) and La Riojain whose capital they give free rein to their creativity”, rescues the guide for the year 2022, adding that the decoration comes to them for “presenting neat and tasty proposals that appeal to the emotional and even have a nuance of exoticism when American ingredients and preparations come onto the scene that often connect with the most popular cuisine”.

Sánchez received the award, a yellow sphere like a sun, as the name indicates, in the company of Murúa. “We have spent some wonderful days in San Sebastian together with friends and colleagues, surely they are days that we will remember forever,” said the Ecuadorian chef.

The Repsol Guide is a tourist guide of Spain and Portugal that gives great importance to its gastronomy, for 35 years. The soles, a symbol of culinary excellence and a sign of Repsol’s link and support for gastronomy in Spain and Portugal.

The prizes are awarded by the Association of Friends of the Royal Academy of Gastronomy and the Brotherhood of the Good Tablebased on culinary excellence, the quality of the raw material and its execution, respect for the region’s cuisine, its wine list and table and room service.

In fact, the number of soles that each establishment can receive represents a quality scale. A sun it means “cuisine of great quality and sufficient variety”; two sunslike those that Ikaro agreed to, “guarantee excellent quality in cuisine and service.” Three Sunson the other hand, “they distinguish the best restaurants of the year”.
