The World Athletics Association (World Athletics) imposed sanctions against Russian and Belarusian athletes. This was reported on the website of the organization.
World Athletics suspended Russian and Belarusian athletes from international competitions. The organization followed the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
Thus, domestic athletes will not be able to take part in the 2022 World Championships in the USA in July, in the World Indoor Championships in Belgrade and in the World Race Walking Championships. In a World Athletics statement, such measures are called a peaceful way to restore peace in Ukraine.
Previously, similar sanctions were imposed by international federations in various sports. In particular, Russia was left without international competitions in football, volleyball, hockey and basketball.
