The sports equipment supplier Adidas announced on Tuesday the suspension of its sponsorship of the Russian Football Federation due to the invasion of Ukraine, a spokesman said.
“Adidas suspends, with immediate effect, its sponsorship of the Russian Football Federation”, declared the company, which in 2020 recorded 2.9% of its turnover in the region of Russia, Ukraine and countries of the former Soviet Union.
Yesterday, UEFA terminated its contract with the energy company Gazprom, estimated at 40 million euros. This sponsorship covered the Champions League, international competitions organized by UEFA and Euro 2024.
Also on Tuesday, another heavy blow to Russian football was announced, following FIFA’s decision to exclude the national team from this year’s World Cup in Qatar.
Contracts from sponsors and sports equipment companies have also been discontinued in other sports such as cycling.
Today, the bicycle manufacturer LOOK decided to end its sponsorship of the Russian team Gazprom-RusVelomember of UCI Pro Team, second division of men’s road cycling. The contract was signed at the beginning of the year.
