A large rock fell on Monday night at km 58 of the Cuenca-Molleturo road, the main artery that connects Azuay with Guayas.
The fall of this material on the road did not cause injuries or deaths.
Machinery from the Ministry of Transportation and Public Works (MTOP) traveled to this section to remove the huge rock that fell on the road.
After the carnival holiday, the Cuenca-Molleturo-El Empalme road will be closed for 40 days
This morning, the MTOP reported that traffic is intermittent in that sector, and agents from the Ecuadorian Transit Commission control the passage.
The road is enabled from 05:00 to 17:00 due to the high risk of falling material.
Precisely because of the risks that this artery represents, from this Wednesday, March 2, the Cuenca-Molleturo-El Empalme highway will be closed for 40 days.
During this time, the rocky material in the upper part of the slope at kilometer 49 will come off.
Due to this forced closure, users who wish to go or come from Cuenca to Guayaquil must use the Cuenca-Zhud-Cochancay-El Triunfo road, which represents an additional distance of 50 kilometers in relation to Molleturo-El Empalme, which in time of trip implies a little more than an hour of transfer.
