The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has suspended Russian national teams and clubs from participating in competitions under its auspices. The organization’s statement is available at Basketnews.
Thus, domestic teams, as well as clubs, will not be able to take part in international competitions. Under the auspices of FIBA, matches of the World Cup and EuroBasket are held. The restrictions will also apply to 3v3 basketball teams. The decision was made on the recommendation of the International Olympic Committee.
Earlier, similar sanctions affected Russian volleyball. The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) has suspended teams from Russia and Belarus from tournaments under its auspices.
Russian football teams were also left without international tournaments. The Russian Football Union (RFU) intends to appeal the decision of the International Football Federation (FIFA) to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
