Brazilian players from clubs in Ukraine leave the country and are welcomed by Romania

Brazilian players who defend soccer teams from Ukraine managed to leave the country that is being attacked by Russia and arrived in Romania, club Shakhtar Donetsk announced on Monday.

“Shakhtar’s Brazilian players left Ukraine with their families. They crossed the border on Monday,” the statement said, assuring that other Dynamo Kiev players were also able to travel to Romania.

The 16 players and their families gathered in a hotel in Kiev for the last few days and posted videos on social media asking for support from the Brazilian government.

“After 16 hours of travel, we have just crossed the border between Ukraine and Moldova. Now we have more than seven hours by bus to Bucharest, from where we will travel to Brazil”, wrote Matheus Assaf, agent of the player for Vinicius Tobias, from Shakhtar on Instagram

Shakhtar Donetsk, which has thirteen Brazilian players in its squad, according to its official website, stressed that this departure of the players was possible thanks to the president of UEFA, Alexander Ceferin, and his counterparts from the Ukrainian and Moldovan federations.

The Italian coach of the Donetsk club, Roberto de Zerbi, was also “happy to return” to his country, in a video published on Instagram, in which he appears surrounded by his coaching staff.

“But we will not be happy as long as our Ukrainian players, our Ukrainian friends and all the Ukrainian people, the proud Ukrainian people, are not as free as we are,” he added.
