The request made by the union is due to the invasion of the Russian army in Ukraine. The union calls for the exclusion of Russian teams and their athletes from all competitions they are participating.
“Based on Russia’s actions in recent weeks, the participation of its teams in UEFA or FIFA competitions or the fulfillment of the functions of its executives in international football is not a possibility,” wrote FIFPro.
In addition to advocating the suspension of Russians, the union also declared support for all athletes who choose not to play against Russian teams.
“FIFPro supports all football players and entities around the world who choose not to play against Russian teams at this distressing time,” he said.
“Our unions in Poland, Sweden and the Czech Republic are in direct contact with players, whose no-play position, no matter where they are, remains firm.”
