The IOC called for holding the competition without Russian and Belarusian athletes

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) called for the non-admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in international competitions. This was reported on the website of the organization.

The IOC recommended depriving athletes from Belarus and Russia of the right to compete at international competitions against the backdrop of Russia’s special military operation in the Donbass. The executive committee of the organization motivated the recommendation by the desire to ensure the protection of the integrity of global sports competitions and the safety of their participants.

Earlier, on February 28, the president of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), Luc Tardif, spoke about the likelihood of exclusion of the ice hockey federations of Russia and Belarus from the organization. According to him, no decision has been made yet.

On February 27, ex-goalkeeper of the Czech national hockey team and Stanley Cup winner Dominik Hasek proposed to suspend the contracts of Russian players in the National Hockey League (NHL). Alexander Kozhevnikov, a two-time Olympic champion in the USSR national team, reacted to his position. He stated that the bombing of Belgrade did not prevent Hasek from earning millions playing in the NHL.
