President of the All-Russian Federation of Rhythmic Gymnastics Irina Viner-Usmanova spoke about the ban on the Russian tricolor at tournaments under the auspices of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG). Her words are quoted by Sport24.
Viner-Usmanova stressed that this is the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), which the FIG is obliged to comply with. “I don’t know what’s next for us. I am very upset by everything that is happening now, ”she said.
On February 25, the IOC recommended that sports federations not fly flags or play Russian anthems in all competitions. According to the statement of the organization, the country violated the Olympic truce.
Against the backdrop of the military operation carried out by Russia on the territory of Ukraine, domestic athletes have lost the opportunity to compete under their own flag in cross-country skiing and biathlon, to play on home fields in European football competitions and qualifying for the World Cup. In addition, a number of foreign clubs refused to play in the Continental Hockey League and the VTB United Basketball League.
