O Manchester United announced the termination of the sponsorship agreement with Aeroflot, a Russian airline. The company was banned from the UK following sanctions imposed by Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
Aeroflot has been a sponsor of the English team since 2013. In 2017, a new agreement of 40 million pounds (approximately R$ 274 million) was defined between the two parties that would last until 2023.

The matter came up after a fan questioned what action United would take in relation to sponsoring the Russian company. Through an email, he was answered.
“Thank you for your email about the club’s partnership with Aeroflot. Our business partnership agreements are between Manchester United and the brands involved, not with any individual owner or related parties. Regarding the specific situation mentioned in your email, we hope you understand that, as a football club with fans from many different countries and cultures, Manchester United does not take a stand on geopolitical issues.”
This Friday, through an official statement on the club’s website, the decision was expressed.
“In light of the events in Ukraine, we have withdrawn sponsorship rights from Aeroflot. We share the concerns of our fans around the world and extend our condolences to those affected.”
Manchester United takes the field this Saturday, 26, at noon (Brasília time) against Watford, for the English Premier League.
