Due to the conflicts between Russia and Ukraine, UEFA held a meeting and transferred the Champions League final from Saint Petersburg, Russian city, to the Stade de France, located in Paris, France.
The decision, which was scheduled for the Gazprom Arena, a stadium that hosted several Euro Cup matches last year, will take place on May 28. In an official statement, the entity explained and confirmed the measure.
“UEfa wishes to express its thanks and appreciation to the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, for his personal support and commitment to moving the most prestigious game in European club football to France at a time of unprecedented crisis,” the statement said.

The president of the Russian football federation, Vyacheslav Koloskov, spoke about the change of venue and accepted the choice, despite not seeing “legal reasons” for such an act.
“I expected something like this, although there are no legal reasons for this decision. We don’t break any rules, but there are pressures on Uefa. In general, I think it was the right decision”, assured Koloskov.
It was also stated that clubs and national teams from Russia and Ukraine must play their games on neutral ground “until further notice”. Therefore, the clash between Russians and Poles for the European qualifiers, scheduled for March 24 in Moscow, will have to be transferred.
“The UEFA Executive Committee has also decided to stand ready to convene further extraordinary meetings, where necessary, to reassess the legal and factual situation as it evolves and adopt further decisions as necessary.”
