Ukrainians consider him a traitor. Now he has spoken after the invasion and is making an appeal

The Russian invasion put professional athletes in danger as well. Many of those playing in Russia and Ukraine are calling for an end to the war and for peace. Among them was Jarosław Rakicki, a picnic.

Rakicki’s meaningful post on Instagram. “Ukraine, peace!”

Rakicki published a post on Instagram – a photo of the Ukrainian flag and the caption: “I – Ukrainian! Peace in Ukraine! Stop the war!”.

Rakicki’s entry caused quite a stir, because he is a player considered a traitor in his country. For thirteen years he played on the reserves and first team of Shakhtar Donetsk and grew up at the club, but in 2018 he moved to Zenit Saint Petersburg in.

This move was perceived as egotistical in Ukraine – according to fans and the media, the footballer put his interests ahead of his attachment to the club, which he has become a legend. After all, apart from the outrage of the community, there was also a reaction from the Ukrainian national team: Rakicki stopped getting called to the team.

In 23 matches this season for Zenit, Rakicki scored two goals and assisted six times in all competitions. The team from St. Petersburg on Thursday will play the second leg of the 1/16 final. At 21:00 he will face Betis, who won 3-2 in the first match.
