International Olympic Committee condemns the breach of the Olympic Truce | Other Sports | sports

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) accused this Thursday to Moscow of having violated the Olympic truce by invading Ukraineand announced his willingness to offer humanitarian assistance to Ukrainian athletes.

In a statement, the IOC “strongly condemns the violation of the Olympic truce by the Russian government”.

At the same time, he indicated that the 193 states that make up the UN adopted a resolution on December 2, 2021 that calls for respect for the Olympic truce by the Olympic Games and Beijing 2022 Paralympics from seven days after the start of the Olympic Games, on February 4, to seven days after the close of the Paralympic Games, which take place from March 4 to 13.

“The IOC President Thomas Bach reiterates today his call for peace launched in the speeches he delivered at the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympic Games,” the IOC said in its statement.

The IOC also showed its “deep concern for the safety of the Olympic community in Ukraine”.

The agency set up a working group in charge of closely monitoring the situation and “coordinating, as far as possible, the humanitarian assistance to members of the Olympic community in Ukraine”.(D)
