aggression towards aggression increases by the hour. On Thursday morning, he ordered the troops to carry out a military action in the Ukrainian Donbas. In the following hours, they also attacked, inter alia, military buildings and airports throughout Ukraine.
Russian troops are attacking Ukraine. Zbigniew Boniek: “There is no consent to war”
The attack of the Russian troops has an impact on the world of sport. The Ukrainian federation has already announced the suspension of further games. Brazilian players and ask for help in getting out of the attacked country. Fans around the world expect the world’s largest organizations to respond resolutely to the Russian attack.
Football fans are demanding severe sanctions against Russia. Polish fans are alive with the duel between Poles and Russians in the play-off for promotion to the world championship.
The meeting is to be held in Moscow, but in the face of the latest developments, no one imagines a trip to Russia. The portal managed to get a comment from the vice president. He was asked what the world of sport should do in this situation.
– Let me put it this way: in my opinion, nothing will be lost with Russian diplomacy. However, you have to be careful in all of this. Because you can swing a saber, but we all have to be very responsible. What’s going on now? The point is to restore the original state, not to escalate the conflict. On the one hand, it certainly requires firmness, but on the other hand, responsibility – Boniek replied.
The former president of the Polish Football Association was of course also asked about the Russia match. A dozen or so hours ago he believed that the match in Moscow should be played. However, the situation has changed dramatically.
– Yesterday I wrote on Twitter that it will definitely be safe in Moscow and from this point of view you can play there. Well, today I could write the same, because it will probably be safe in Moscow. But these 10 or 12 hours changed a lot. Because from today we have a different question: should we play with a country that has attacked another country? Russia has threatened what has been untouchable for so long in Europe: peace and inviolability of borders. From now on, the situation is different, very dangerous. So once again: should we play against Russia in such a situation? There is no shortage of doubts here. But the point is also that we do not punish ourselves, for example by a boycott. We are not to blame for this situation, it is not us who should bear the consequences – says Boniek.
UEFA vice president also responded to the emerging allegations that the organization was not reacting to the Russian attack on Ukraine. Boniek took a firm stand.
– Yes, I keep reading that UEFA and FIFA are only five-star hotels and so on. Let me put it this way: let’s not go crazy! If something happens at 7:00 AM, that doesn’t mean that 7:15 AM is about to be our decisions. Well, that’s when we would all go crazy. As I told you, the UEFA Executive Committee will convene in no time and there will certainly be a reaction to what is happening. But again: you have to be very responsible in all of this. We do not want war in Europe, there is no consent to it! We want to restore to its original state and peace. We want normality. And this is what we should strive for! – finished.
confirmed the convening of an extraordinary meeting of the Executive Committee, which will deal with the issue of imposing possible sanctions on Russia. The meeting will be held on Friday at 10:00.
