On March 24, the white and red team will play in Moscow in the play-off for the World Cup in Qatar. The upcoming date of the meeting and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine give rise to doubts. Will the Poles go to Moscow for sure? If so, will they be safe there? And is there any chance that the match will take place elsewhere?
“Poles will fall very low if they do not fly to Moscow”
This situation triggered a reaction from the party who sent an official letter to FIFA asking for clarification on the Russia-Poland match. .
– Poles in my eyes will fall very low if they do not fly to Moscow. They will do what the entire sports community does not want. They are safe there, because it is a sport. Personally, I think politics should not be a sport. Of course, I follow the situation and talk to other Slovaks. Everyone is upset, no one wants such a mess as it is happening now. But politicians are responsible for it. It is difficult for us, ordinary citizens, to say something because the situation is very complicated – said Martin Jakubko, 41-time Slovakian national and former footballer of several Russian clubs (he played in Russia for seven seasons in total) in an interview with “Sports.ru”.
He also commented on the fact that the Champions League final was scheduled for May 22nd. – I don’t mean to be rude, but this is complete nonsense, complete nonsense. What they do and what they want to do is wrong. Russia as a country tried to have everything ready. Petersburg has a great new stadium, great conditions – admits Jakubko.
It is also said that Russian clubs could be excluded from European cups. – UEFA should not do it. But when there is very strong political pressure, anything can happen. We do not know all the intricacies of their affairs – adds Jakubko.
What awaits Poles after the match with Russia?
If Poland wins with Russia, it will play against the winner of the pair Sweden – Czech Republic in the match decisive for the promotion to the World Cup. And if Czes³aw Michniewicz remains in his position after the play-offs, his next matches will be the matches in June and September in Poland will play in the fourth division of the first division against Belgium, the Netherlands and Wales (the best team will advance to the final tournament, the weakest will fall to division B). The World Cup will take place at the turn of November and December.
