The heads of the Donetsk People’s Republic Denis Pushilin and the Luhansk People’s Republic Leonid Pasechnik appealed to Russian President Vladimir Putin with a request “to assist in repelling aggression from Ukraine,” press secretary of the Russian head of state Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

According to Peskov, Pasechnik and Pushilin spoke about “continued military aggression by the Armed Forces of Ukraine” and “deaths of civilians, including children.” They claim that Kiev “does not want to stop the war in Donbass” and “continues to build up its military presence on the line of contact.” They also referred to the fact that Ukraine “receives comprehensive support, including military support, from the United States and other Western states.”

Peskov said that the heads of the republics are asking “to help repel aggression” in order to “prevent casualties among civilians and a humanitarian catastrophe”. At the same time, they refer to articles 3 and 4 of the treaties on friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance between the Russian Federation and the republics, signed on February 21.

Recall, earlier the media reported that two columns of military equipment moved from the Russian border towards Donetsk. On Wednesday, Newsweek wrote, citing US intelligence sources, that the Russian military planned a “large-scale invasion” of Ukraine within two days. At the same time, it is possible that the “invasion” will begin with a cyber attack, and the troops may enter from the Donbass or from the territory of Belarus.
